An update on SARPRA

Last year SARPRA was contacted by the University of Adelaide with the view to participate in delagates tours during the annual Australasian Housing Researchers Conference (AHRC12) being held in February. Elizabeth Village was chosen to take part and as such hosted the delegates from overseas as well as Government Departments ie Planning SA, Dept Families and Communities, local Mayor and the Town Planner. These delegates were walked around the Village taking in the Recreation Hall, Residents vegetable gardens, tour of an established home as well as a new unoccupied house built on site. Other Aging organizations have toured include COTA, SHELTER SA and OFTA.

Benifits of these visits and contacts have been shown with the recent review of the Residential Tenancies Act 1995 where support has been given to our request for a review of the Residential Parks Act 2007 as we feel there are some areas of concern. At that time we did not have an Association to represent the Residents who live in Residential Villages/Parks. At present there are discussionson Residential Villages and Parks in other States so perhaps not to far in the future our concerns will be taken into consideration . The ageing population are interested in downsizing to a smaller newer home which they can physically and financially cope with- and enjoy the peace and security that the Residential Village/Park can provide.

SARPRA in conjunction with Elizabeth Village Residents Committee has made some inroads toward receiving sewerage concessions for Parks treating their own sewerage.
